down the middle he found Matt Rhead who in turn flicked the ball on for Micheal Lennon who gave the keeper no chance with his well placed shot. from 10yds but the keeper Brearley pulled off a brilliant save to deny him. "Grove" went close yet again in the 29th min following a free kick from Ashley Wooliscroft who from 25yds hit a fierce shot forcing the keeper into another brilliant save. Carlton rode their luck and strarted to play some neat football which at times stretched the home side and they should have drawn level in the 38th min and only a brilliant save from James Coates denied Thomas. But at the break it was Kidsgrove who went in with a slender lead.

In the 48th min Kidsgrove should have been awarded a penalty when keeper Brearley palmed the ball on the line, but Cane pushed the balL clear with his hand but the referee waived play on. Carlton continued to play some good football and they were pressing forward. Kidsgrove caught them out in the 71st min when Matt Rhead scored with a well placed shot from 15 yds.
Carlton then had Jepson sent off for a second yellow card but the ten men managed to pull a goal back The referee added a further 5min but Kidsgrove held out to take the three points.
